Compliance tools that support, not surveil
We're building technology that helps good childcare operators demonstrate their commitment to quality—without treating educators as suspects.
Why we started
The Australian childcare sector serves 1.4 million children and employs 200,000 educators. The vast majority of centres operate with dedication and care. Yet high-profile incidents have eroded public trust and triggered the most significant regulatory reform in over a decade.
We watched as the industry responded. Major operators began installing CCTV systems across their networks. Government announced trials. New policies came into effect. But a question kept nagging at us: what happens to all that footage?
The answer, mostly, is nothing. Cameras record. Hard drives fill up. Nobody watches unless something goes wrong. Directors still spend hours on manual compliance documentation. Regulators still visit every few years. The cameras provide liability protection, but not much else.
We thought there had to be a better way. What if cameras could actually generate useful output? What if they could produce the compliance documentation that directors spend hours compiling manually? What if they could identify patterns before they become problems?
That's what we're building at Continuum Labs.
How we think about this
Our approach is shaped by a few core beliefs that guide every product decision.
Compliance documentation, not surveillance
There's a meaningful difference between watching people and documenting compliance. We're not building a tool to catch bad actors—we're building a tool that helps good operators prove they're good. The output is structured text reports, not video feeds for someone to monitor.
On-premise because it matters
When Minister Clare expressed concern about CCTV systems becoming 'honeypots' for hackers, we agreed. That's why Continuum One processes everything locally. Raw video never leaves the building. There's no cloud repository of children's footage to target. This isn't a marketing decision—it's an architectural one.
Support educators, don't replace them
We're clear about what AI can and cannot do. It can count people in a frame (roughly). It can log timestamps. It can identify patterns over time. It cannot assess the quality of an interaction, detect grooming behaviour, or replace the judgment of a qualified educator. Anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling.
Honest about limitations
We'd rather tell you what we can't do than have you find out later. Our counts are estimates, not precise numbers. Our flags are prompts for review, not compliance determinations. We're one layer in a comprehensive approach to child safety—not a silver bullet.
What we value
Safety First
Child safety is our north star. Every feature, every decision is measured against this priority.
Privacy by Design
On-premise processing isn't just a feature—it's our architecture. Raw video never leaves your building.
Educator Allies
We build tools that support educators, not surveil them. Document positive practice, not just concerns.
Honest Positioning
We're transparent about limitations. We'd rather under-promise and over-deliver.
Our team
We're a small team with backgrounds across the areas that matter for this work.
Childcare Operations
We've worked in and with childcare centres. We understand the daily reality of ratios, documentation, and regulatory visits—not just the theory.
AI & Computer Vision
Our technical team has deployed vision AI systems at scale. We know what these models can actually do, and—importantly—what they can't.
Regulatory & Compliance
We've spent years working with NQF, NQS, and ACECQA requirements. We built Continuum One specifically for the Australian regulatory environment.
Enterprise Technology
We've built and deployed systems that need to work reliably, every day, in real-world conditions. Continuum One is built to that standard.

Built on world-class technology
Continuum One is built on NVIDIA's edge AI platform, enabling powerful Vision Language Model processing entirely on-premise. As a member of NVIDIA's Inception Program for AI startups, we have access to the latest hardware, software tools, and technical expertise to build enterprise-grade AI solutions.
Australian owned and operated
Continuum Labs is proudly Australian. We understand the Australian regulatory environment—NQF, NQS, ACECQA requirements—because we've built our product specifically for it. Our support team is local, our installation partners are national, and our commitment to Australian childcare centres is absolute.
